The Approach
Dee doesn't write to give you more intellectual information about Jesus. He writes to help you find the heart connection you crave and find yourself in the story of the Gospel. The Gospel narrative where the God of the universe kneels on a floor and washes the feet of people who are about to fail Him and loves them to the end, walking in their story so He could know every bit of what it’s like to be you.
If you've been hurt by religion, burned out on performance, or are convinced that your version of faith you acquired is not enough, you're in the right place. The writing here moves between the Gospels and real life without pretending the gap doesn't exist — because the gap is exactly where most of us actually live. Grief, doubt, depression, the slow erosion of hope — none of that disqualifies you from encountering Jesus. In fact, it may be the very thing that positions you to find Him in a way that finally heals and transforms you.
He Loved Them to the End
On the night before everything fell apart, Jesus didn't retreat. He knelt on the floor and washed the feet of the man who was about to betray Him. He looked across a crowded courtyard at the man who had just denied Him and had no anger in His face. He prayed for the people driving the nails while they were still driving them. He Loved Them to the End follows Jesus through His final hours. There's a difference between knowing the gospel and being transformed by experiencing it.
Many of us have carried the story in our heads for years, maybe our whole lives, while something in us remained untouched, still anxious, still performing, still secretly convinced that God's patience with us has a ceiling. Still white-knuckling faith through depression, exhaustion, and the grief of a heart that's heard the right answers but never quite been healed by them.
This book was written for that person. This book was not written to sweep you up in the narrative and to walk you slowly through the moments where Jesus revealed exactly who He is to you and for you. Let the story do what doctrine alone never could. When the closing scenes of His life stop being theology and start becoming something you personally recognize and experience, something that speaks directly to your own suffering and failure and longing, that's when everything changes.

The Bible makes an incredible claim about God in 1 John 4:8: God is love. It doesn’t say He merely possesses a certain amount of love or is occasionally loving, but that He is the embodiment and source of all true love. In 1 Corinthians 13:5, we learn that love, by its very nature, is not self-centered—it focuses on others. Nowhere is this “other-centered” love more vividly displayed than in the closing scenes of Jesus’ life on earth.
